Roberts Creek BC

Roberts Creek BC is located just north of Gibsons BC and lies between Gibsons and Sechelt BC

It is just a short drive from the north end of Gibsons to the turn off known as “Lower Road” Roberts Creek.

This is a thriving community where visitors will find spectacular natural beauty, hiking trails, biking trails, restaurants, shops, a general store, post office, schools, a legion, churches, including historical ones and a very busy community hall.

The residents of Roberts Creek are known locally as ‘Creekers’ and they love their community. There is a very strong sense of community values here, and the community prides itself on being a safe place to raise a family.

Artists, Organic Gardens and Outdoor Activities abound in this seaside community. It is very quaint and a homey feel takes over you while you are in the community.

Roberts Creek BC runs along the Georgia Straight on the Pacific Ocean and cruise ships are a common site during the Alaska Cruising Season. One of the best places to view them from is the community pier located right in the village, a short stroll from the Roberts Creek General Store.

There are two places to eat in the village, the Gumboot Café and the Gumboot Restaurant - Yes! They are related and serve up a wide assortment of delights including vegetarian fare! The laid back atmosphere and sense of community can be felt eating in either establishment. Local artists work line the walls and there are community bulletin boards to find out ‘whats happening’ in Roberts Creek.

There is a commercial area just beside the Gumboot Café in a boardwalk style commercial building known as “The Heart of the Creek” Here you can stroll the covered walk and find a health food store, local artists wares, including pottery, jewellery, art, natural fibre clothing, hand knit sweaters and socks, outdoor adventure store and some professional offices. It is really a nice place to browse and there is greenspace that makes you feel welcomed to the area.

There is one elementary school in Roberts Creek BC, Roberts Creek Community School and they host a variety of local recreational programs as well, fully utilizing the space and amenity for the area. You can take a Yoga Class, enjoy activities in the Gym, take an inspirational class and many more activities. During the summer, there are special activities for the kids as well. Roberts Creek Community School is just that and the whole community participates. In the spring there is an awesome plant sale every year, so if you are in the area, be sure to check it out.

Off Beach Avenue you will find some sandy swimming beaches as well as a provincial park to enjoy a picnic lunch and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. There are large boulders that crop out from the sandy swimming shores, so if the tide is in when you decide to take a dip, be careful.

Roberts Creek BC is also home to Boy Scouts Camp Byng, and the Girl Guides Camp Olave. Both camps are situated on the waterfront and are set in spectacular wilderness settings.

If you are looking for a place to stay in Roberts Creek BC you are limited to Camping at the Provincial Campground off the highway, no beach there, but it is within walking distance if you don’t mind a good stroll, it is quite a ways away. Your other choice is some of the most charming and welcoming Bed & Breakfasts to be found. Be sure to check out their websites from our Roberts Creek Bed & Breakfasts page.

If you are in the area around Mid November to Early December you will find craft fairs in the community, if you are in town, you must stroll through, the diversity and talent of the artists in the area is top notch. You may even just find that perfect one of a kind Christmas present you were looking for. For years the majority of the community was located between Hwy 101 and the ocean, in the last 5-10 years there has been a large surge of development on the upper side of the Creek between Hwy 101 and Mount Elphinstone. These are larger plots and acreages and you will find horseback riding, artists & crafters studios and local farms on the upper side. A truly beautiful place to drive through on a Sunday afternoon. Take a map! You can easily get yourself turned around on the upper roads.

There are festivals hosted every year up in Crystal Creek in the summer. Musicians and talented artisans abound. 100’s of people make the trek every year and stay the night amongst the stars enjoying the music, food and people in a very serene mountain setting.

At the foot of the pier, local residents donate time and energies to create a beautiful mural calendar at the entrance to the beach area. Truly spectacular at the talent and beauty, it shows how much these local residents love their community.

There is another summer event you should not miss – and I mean not miss- if you are in the area – The Piggly Wiggly Parade – you will never see another parade like this in a community the size of Roberts Creek. Truly a talented group of people it is exuberating and a visual treat to see. The even takes place in August of every year.

Hope you have some time on your trip to the Sunshine Coast to visit this spectacular community. Enjoy Roberts Creek BC.
