Salmon Fishing on the Sunshine Coast

Salmon Fishing on the Sunshine Coast! The Sunshine Coast has traditionally been made up of salmon fishing communities. Both sports fishing & commercial fishing have been popular over the years. In various communities there are annual Salmon fishing derbies:

Gibsons – Sea Cavalcade Kids Fishing Derby - July

Sechelt - Bucaneer Marina / Gilligans Pub Derby - August

Halfmoon Bay - Country Fair Kids Fishing Derby - July

Pender Harbour - Annual Legion Salmon Derby - August

Egmont - Kids Fishing Derby - Egmont Days - June

Powell River - Sea Fair Fishing Derby - August

Good Sports Fishing can be enjoyed, both saltwater and freshwater.

It is mandatory in British Columbia to obtain a fishing license for both salt and freshwater fishing, including shellfish and crustaceans.

A sport fishing (recreational) license can be obtained online at Department of Fisheries*

The Sunshine Coast offers an array of fishing & harvesting opportunities, from oysters to salmon, it seems we have a little bit of everything. While you are on the Sunshine Coast, you must try your hand at some fishing and experience fresh west coast seafood at its best.

There are several Charter Companies on the Sunshine Coast who are available for full charter service. (Yes fish cleaning can be accommodated!)

For those who aren’t too keen on fishing in the salt chuck, there is excellent clamming and oyster harvesting at certain times of the year.
